History

Growing up 90 miles south of Nashville in a rural Tennessee town, Eloise Pitts (later O'More) loved architecture and design. At the age of 18 and in the heart of the jazz age (1925), she left for Paris, and at Le Collège Féminin studied interior design, ballet and fine art. A young girl free in Paris. That experience shaped her. Eloise studied Interior Design at Parsons (NYC) when she was in her mid-30s. She married Colonel O'More and moved to Middle Tennessee where she practiced interior design and established connections with other women passionate about the arts, like Clara Hieronymus, the first woman theater critic to have a regular feature in a national newspaper. In her 60s, Mrs. O'More retired from practice in order to establish the school that would preserve her design principles and her passion. Starting in, her Victorian home on West Main Street, Franklin, in 1970, she opened to students studying Interior Design. By 1979, the school outgrew the Main Street house and in 1980 moved to the mansion house on a hill above downtown Franklin, where it still stands and thrives. Today, the College's Bachelor of Fine Arts programs enroll approximately 200 students in Fashion, Graphic Design, and Interior Design that supply leadership to the creative industries in the Nashville region and beyond. Despite the world of rapid change we live in, the culture of the College preserves Mrs. O'More's ideal of nurturing talent and passion in each individual and helping to sustain a world that is full of spaces and objects that are well designed, well made and beautiful.
